I gave very little thought to Israel until around 1970, after reading Hal Lindsey’s book, The Late Great Planet Earth I began to realize how vital Israel and the Jewish People were to me as a Christian.
As a Gentile Christian, I love Israel because of what is written in the book of Deuteronomy:
“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all of the peoples on the face of the earth.” Deuteronomy 7:6-8
For the most part, Israel today does not know their Messiah Yeshua (Jesus). However, as Paul informs us in Romans:
“at the present time there is a remnant (Dugit for example) chosen by grace” Romans 11:5
However, because of the Gospel witness in the land, many Jews are being saved and are becoming members of the body of Messiah through faith in Yeshua.
In Psalm 122, God tells us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem,
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces.” For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, “Peace be within you.” Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek your good.” Psalm 122:6-9
From this passage, we see that praying for peace and good to come to God’s Holy City benefits those who pray for her. Since Jerusalem is depicted as the center of Jewish life, it follows that those who pray for her peace and security will be granted peace themselves!
Here are several Biblical reasons why Christians should support Israel.
1. “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:3
God has promised to bless the man or nation that blesses His chosen people. History has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the nations that have blessed the Jewish people have had the blessing of God; the nations that have cursed the Jewish people have experienced the curse of God.
2. Christians owe a debt of eternal gratitude to the Jewish people, for the scripture says, “Salvation is of the Jews!” John 4:22
Consider what the Jewish people have given to us Christians:
3. While some Christians try to deny the connection between Jesus of Nazareth and the Jewish people, Jesus never denied His Jewishness. He was born Jewish, He was circumcised on the eighth day in keeping with Jewish tradition, He had his Bar Mitzvah on His 13th birthday, He died on a cross with an inscription over His head, “King of the Jews!”
4. These Scriptures verify that prosperity (Genesis 12:3 and Psalm 122:6), healing (Luke 7:1-5), and the outpouring of The Holy Spirit (Acts 10:45) came first to those Gentiles that blessed the Jewish people and the nation of Israel in a practical manner.
I also support Israel because all other nations were created by an act of men, but Israel was created by an act of God! The Land Grant that was given to Abraham and his seed through Isaac and Jacob is an everlasting and unconditional covenant. (Genesis 12:1-3, 13:14-28, 15:1-21, 17:4-8, 22:15-18, 26:1-5 and Psalm 89:28-37)
And lastly, I support Dugit because of what Paul writes in Romans 10:14 & Romans 1:16:
“How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:14
“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16
