It is with great pain that we write to inform, update, and call on you to pray. We are sure that most of you are aware of the recent onslaught of terror that has been occurring here in the land of Israel for the past weeks and are still on going to our sorrow. In Israel, the news companies are calling the past weeks “Gal Terror” meaning “a Wave of Terror”. It has not yet taken the name “The Third Intifada”, but still, there are constant little reminders of what life used to be back in the day of the first and second Intifadas. On an average, there have been about 20 to 30 attacks daily with only the major ones being reported.
As of the moment we are writing this update, we have seen a total of 100 injured in the terror attacks. This number is split into three categories: mild, severe, and intensive care unit (fighting for one’s life). The number of mild cases are 70 persons, the number of severe cases are 20, while the rest are fighting for their life. We have seen 7 innocent people killed in stabbings or in the latest shootings. There is no mercy being shown by the terrorists for children or elderly being that the youngest victim of the terror attacks is 10 years of age and the oldest being a 70 year old lady.
Probably the most appalling fact is that the Palestinian children are taking part in the attacks. So far, two young boys ages 13 and 15 went on a stabbing spree in Jerusalem severely injuring a 25 year old man and a 13 year old boy. The Israeli police, in an attempt to stop the stabbings, shot both boys injuring the 13 year old and killing the 15 year old. This incident of course is being spun by the Palestinian Media to the world as an injustice to the children who were “simply on their way home from school”. The Palestinian Government accuses Israel of murdering both the 13 and 15 year Palestinian boy in cold blood. However, as news reports have come out in the last few days which have made it clear that only the 15 year was killed and that the 13 year old Palestinian is in an Israeli hospital receiving care from Israeli doctors and nurses and recovering quite well. The young Israeli boy who he stabbed is still in an intensive care unit.
However, life must go on even though some of the attacks have come from Arabs living in Israel with Israeli citizenship. My (Chaya) daughter and I went to the doctor’s office to get a flu shot and to our surprise, the nurse who administered the shots was a religious Muslim! I made sure to tell her ‘hello’ and ask her how she was doing. To be honest, inside I was feeling more like “oh no”. The Muslim Nurse responded to my friendly greeting with a sigh of relief and a smile. Sometimes in these tense times, the simplest thing like a smile can show love and perfect love casts out all fear.
